Sanctuary of Magic
Rumors of Fate: in Gallery Artist Statement
The feeling of “It’s meant to be” can be felt deeply by some individuals as well as by large groups of people activating change in the world around us. Is the compelling instinct to move in a certain direction or make a sudden unexpected choice that culminates in a profound change in the direction of our life, fate?
Does fate exist? Is our fate determined by some mystical force or by the magic of cause and effect? This exhibit explores visually the transitory experience of being human while examining the mystery of fate through symbolic form and layers of complex colors.
We are all on our own unique path that moves us through this world. That path is dictated by nature and nurture, who we are born to as well as by our genetics but also by the impulse that comes from the mystery that is known as “the soul.” We are more than the sum of our parts. The greatest minds of our time can still not explain this. Does this mystery that is our soul create our destiny or fate or is the soul influenced by supernatural energy outside of itself?
I have been painting for almost half a century. I had my first gallery exhibit in 1982. I selected the work for this show, “Rumors of fate” with the question of fate in mind and because the show is opening the last week of October I tipped my hat a bit to Halloween. With a retrospective in mind I selected one painting from each year from 1987 to 1997. A look back into a strange mirror.
Rumors of fate for some will be a spiritual question for others a philosophical one. Some will scoff at the idea of fate and others will feel it deeply and allow what they believe to be the winds of fate to fill their sails. Personally I believe that this exhibit was meant to be and you were meant to see it.
It might be fate.
Enjoy.
